About Us

What's in a name? My humble beginnings...

I was raised on a farm in western Kansas, the next to youngest of six children. I was spoiled with love. Both my parents and grandparents were a very strong influence in my life and the biggest compliment I can imagine is being told that I remind someone of them. We learned early to respect our resources and be creative with what was available.

I learned to sew and crochet from my mother, Marieta, whom my dad nicknamed “Mert” and her mother, my grandmother named Opal. There was nothing those two women couldn't fix, create, or make more beautiful. They could always be found with a handmade project in the works whether they were on the tractor waiting for the combine to make another round, in a boat out on the lake, or sitting on the bleachers watching yet another kids sporting event. Never any idle hands to be seen. I am proud to have learned from them how wonderful it can be to make something from nothing and the joy of giving from the heart. In my world nothing says I love you better than a handmade gift.

Now after 20 years of working as a Registered Nurse in many hospitals around the country, I recently moved with my husband to Navarre, Florida where we are only 5 minutes away from a beautiful beach on the Gulf of Mexico. I now have the pleasure of taking everything a step further by creating my quilts completely from start to finish with my own long arm set up in my studio. I enjoy every step of the process. Beginning with the decisions of what fabrics and colors to put together (I have to confess that I am a “petter” of fabric, I just have to touch it and see if it’s as soft as it looks). Then what design to sew it back together in after cutting all that wonderful fabric into smaller pieces, sewing each piece and then the quilting, to make it into a quilt not just a quilt top. It’s such a wonderful sense of accomplishment. Thank you for coming with me on my journey.
